Seeking answers through intuition is not something my family encouraged. My parents were both educators and they guided me to a left brained approach to problem solving. The first step was to identify the problem (not always as clear as we might think), then consider options and finally create a plan with rational and predicitable steps.
My mother did not reach for the tarot deck or rune stones. Actually, I can't remember the first time I saw or heard of either! My dad worked with Joseph Banks Rhine at Duke University with studies on ESP, but the studies were to better understand the brain, and not for intuitive problem solving approaches. Both parents were open minded and creative but if they were aware of intuitive approaches, they didn't share them with me.
One of my first experiences with intuitive answers was following a visit to the Hershey Medical Center where a doctor found a tumor, scheduled surgery and sent me home wait. Trusting my intuition save my life.
This fall I taught a course on Seeking the Sacred and a major section was on symbolism. If we pay attention and have faith, the universe will provide anwers, whether through totems, quotes or passages in books that capture our attention, or contacts from people providing unexpected insights and information. I have a fascinationg story about a guardian angel that recently had a huge impact in my life - more to come as it unfolds. Whether you actively pursue symbols, angels or colors by seeking them proactively, or simply trust the universe to provide what you need in a more indirect approach, pay attention to your intuition. If you give it the opportunity, it will serve you well.
