100 Wishes

10/19/2014

One of the assignments for our A More Creative You course was to make a list of 100 wishes. It inspired me to start my own and it keeps growing . . .
Some are wishes that I have no control over, but others have become goals, and the ones
italicized in purple are goals I've completed. I encourage every one to make 'wish lists'. As we begin to collect and consider the possibilities, we are more likely to try new possibilities!

Hampton House with Newcomer's

On Wednesday I joined the Newcomer's of Northern Baltimore County for lunch at the Iron Horse Tavern in Lock Raven, followed by a tour of the historic Hampton House. The guide was passionate and knowledgeable about the home and the stories of the people who had lived there. She was an African American and her insights and perspective added greatly to the tour.
"The Site includes the c. 1790 Ridgely family ancestral home, known as Hampton Mansion. Also on the property are the original c. 1750 Overseer's House, three Slave Quarters, two 19th century stables, the family burial ground, formal gardens, the Orangery, the Ice House, and various other outbuildings. The NPS Visitors' Center is located in the west hyphen of the Mansion, and is open for tours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (additional days may be added so please call ahead)."
When the home was completed in 1790, it was the largest private home in the United States, even more intriguing because it was only used during the summer months. The surrounding property reached its peak in 1820,encompassing more than 25,000 acres. More than 300 slaves worked the fields and served the household, which may well be why I felt uncomfortable through out the tour. It was grueling to think that families could live in such opulence at the cost of the lives of hundreds of others. Nonetheless, i highly recommend the tour. This is not a site to be romanticized or coveted. The cost was much too great to justify the splendor. My perspective of slavery was broadened, which came as a surprise.I'll be processing this one for a long time.

Coming Home!

10/13/2014

It's seldom easy to leave the beach, but Mycala did her best to make my return home wonderful. I opened the door to the fragrance of my favorite flower, the star gazer lily. She had Thai Shrimp Soup with rolls waiting for my dinner, along with apples, a delightful Honeycrisp apple cider, adorable Halloween napkins, and a purring, content Rocky cat!

Lunar Eclipse

Today's treasure is the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse! I got up at 5:30 a.m. to see this final lunar eclipse of the year. Spectacular! It is the second, and final, total lunar eclipse of the year. The moon is a beautiful coppery red, so it's been called a "blood" moon. It looks red because of all the sunsets and sunrises from the Earth that will reflect onto the lunar surface. During the eclipse, although it's completely in the shadow of Earth, a bit of reddish sunlight still reaches the moon.

I hope if it is visible in your area, you have taken the opportunity to see it. It's stunningly beautiful!

Yesterday we completed our fifth week of A More Creative You at the Renaissance Institute. It was "play day" and I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. Last night I received a very heart felt e-mail from a participant and feel very blessed to have made a difference. Next week we'll have our final session, featuring Show and Tell. I can hardly wait to see what they'll share!

Last night was our final session of our eight week Take the Rose Instead on line session The group has been thoughtful, insightful and open to self disclosures that have benefited all of us. We'll be staying in touch through our Facebook page as well as monthly phone calls and e-mails. I miss them already!
This weekend we are having our Roses by the Sea Retreat! It's been a week filled with reflections, self-discovery and a feeling of community and support! I'm feeling very blessed!

Happy Birthday Mahatma Gandhi!

“The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing
would suffice to solve most of the world’s problem.”

~ Mahatma Gandhi
I posted this story a few months ago.
Today, in honor of Gandhi's birthday, it seems like the perfect time to repost.

I recently read a story about a man who dreamt he was a softly moving beam of light floating through a crowd. The dream prompted him to consider the impact he had on others as he moved through his day. He made the decision to literally be a 'beam of light'.  He made a commitment to bring warmth and light to his personal '10 foot zone".

There are people who light up the area around them naturally. We had a coordinator's meeting today and watching the crowd dynamics was fascinating. We have a couple of people whose positive energy radiates well beyond 10 feet!  (Linda, Roy and Kathryn, to name a few!)

Wouldn't it be phenomenal if we would all become aware of the warmth we can extend to others, whether in an increasingly long line at the post office, a traffic jam or passing a neighbor? A smile and a kind word can make all the difference. If they don't smile back, we shouldn't take it personally. We never know what is going on in people's lives. But most of the time people will be receptive, and they'll probably pass the warmth along to others.

We can't control what is happening in the world, and the media makes us very aware of the ugliness and injustice. Yet we are much more powerful than we realize. Extend a warm smile, a sincere compliment, gentle reassurance -  it doesn't cost anything to use our boundless source of love and energy to make the world a kinder, gentler place. We all have the power to impact our own 10 foot radius. If each one of us commits to that small area, and all of the circles connect, the impact would be immeasurable.

Invitation to Expressive Painting

This morning I read an announcement about a course being offered in Tacoma, WA and literally sent a message stating that I was ready to move to the west coast just to participate. Even though I knew it was across the country, I added it to my wish list! It just manifested!!!

A few minutes ago, I received an invitation to participate via an on line training! The course is Intuitive Painting from an artist who is a Master Facilitator in Intuitive Arts and the Expressive Arts. She extended the invitation to three of us simply because "you three have been so wonderful and committed" in the Artist Way program (another invitation that magically arrived through synchronicity and divine choreography). What a blessing and a gift!  If we participate with joyful enthusiasm, life will continue to bestow glorious, unexpected gifts!
