Enhancing Your Life with Herbs
When you think of herbs, do your thoughts lead you to parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme? They are wonderful, but there is so much more to learn! Herbs are sprinkled throughout Egyptian tombs, medieval tapestries, Monet's kitchen, Shakespeare's plays Biblical text and Hindi puja ceremonies. They protect, destroy, predict, inspire, cure, decorate and delight the heart!
Many herbs are dismissed as weeds. One of my favorites, Achillea mifollium, was planted on the grave of Confucius, used to stop bleeding in the Battle of Troy, predicted the future, guaranteed seven years of marital bliss, and was used by the church in exorcisms. Later she was considered "of the devil'. She was labeled 'Dirty Man's Plaything' and women who used her were declared witches and burned at the stake. She endured both fame and adoration, as well as the indignities, with grace. We can learn valuable lessons from nature.
