Yesterday was my first day back at RI (Renaissance Institute) at Notre Dame University of Maryland. Our first session was an overview of the course - a potpourri of things to come. We reviewed herbal quotes from Shakespeare and the Bible, and examples of herbs featured in the medieval Unicorn Tapestries now on display at the Cloisters in New York City.
We compared a few herbs used in ancient Egypt Eber's Papyrus scroll from 1550 B.C. It contains over 700 herbal remedies, many still used in the same way today. Herbs are for so much more than merely cooking!
Through out the course we will investigate Romancing Herbs, Haunting and Holiday Herbs, Healing Herbs and herbs from the Zodiac. Our final session will be a celebratory herbal party where participants can share.
Many of the handouts and booklets we are exploring are already features - well hidden as this is Hidden Treasures - through out this site. Enjoy!
