I
Thank you for checking out my website! It is filled with things I loved as a child growing up on my grandmother’s farm. Every day was filled with new discoveries - tiny bantam hen eggs under the lilac bush, pieces of scrap fabrics to make patchwork quilts, lavender flowers to make lavender wands or sachets. There were endless ways to use herbs, from seasoning foods to decorating and celebrating holidays and incorporating symbolism to personalize gifts,. Herbs can stimulate, protect and purify, or provide comfort, relaxation and promote sleep!
If you love all things natural, herbs, legends and lore, recipes, decorating and gift ideas, reading, inspirational quotes, and vintage fashions and sewing, you’ll find them here! Thinking back to the way we lived then, and the way I’m living now in my 1795 log cabin, brings me a sense of comfort and peace. Feeling more connected to nature and aware of its gifts and lessons reduces stress and encourages me to be more fully in the present moments. I hope it will do the same for you!
. . . Begin YOUR Treasure Hunt!
"You wander from room to room, hunting for the diamond necklace that is already around your neck!"
-- Jalal-Uddin Rumi"
Let's begin!
There is no wrong way to begin to look for all of the treasures in this site (or any where, for that matter!
Treasures are all around you!)! Click on the links and enjoy - use your intuition and see where it leads you!
Please come back often because new treasures are added frequently!
You might want to begin learning about the Hidden Treasures!
You can read Mikell’s gratitude list and then begin your own list!
The lessons from nature, elements, plants, and animals can give us numerous insights! Some of the lessons are more obvious, but others, subtle. My galleries are filled with paintings inspired by nature! I love herbs, wildflowers and weeds. When we learn to recognize value in things we have over looked - a weed, an insect, a person in prison, a troubled youth - it may guide us to look at others, and even ourselves, from a broader, gentler perspective.
Roses are a passion! If you search the site, you will find an e-book called Ode to a Rose, Legends, Lore and Language. One of her most popular sessions, Take the Rose Instead is an approach to weight loss through beauty and romance instead of diet and deprivation. You'll save money and watch the pounds drop off, "one beautiful choice at a time.".
Shifting perspectives can make challenges and new experiences more fun and less intimidating collecting firsts helped her move through some difficult times, and to embrace new opportunities and adventures with enthusiasm. There are prompts for you to begin thinking about starting your own collection of firsts!
Mikell's wish is that through the resources on this site, you will find inspiration. Hopefully, you will learn to identify and develop your strengths and talents, and weave more beauty and romance, joy and creativity into each day.
May you live with more fun, flair and enthusiasm!"

When I first published this site in April of 2012, I waited until I had a lot of treasures hidden among the pages. Over the years I have added more and more content. I'm surprised at what I find in these pages when I start browsing and at times can't find what I'm looking for. Here are some ideas that may be helpful as you search.
1. Look at the side bar on the right side of my blog, Today's Treasure, to find the topics I most often include. Those categories can help you narrow your search to topics that will interest you.
2.Come back to visit from time to time. I change the headers occasionally depending on the season and my mood!
3. Use the Search bar option. If you type in a word, such as lavender, you'll be delighted with what you'll find
(I hope)!

A bit more about Mikell

Mikell (pronounced Michael) is an artist, writer, coach and trainer. She is the creator of the Hidden Treasures curriculum, an asset based approach to the four personality types, originating with the "four humours" model of Hippocrates. She is a Certified ARTbundance TM Coach and Practitioner, a philosophy that guides clients to access and use their creativity in powerful ways to catalyze greater awareness, joy, prosperity, and meaning in life.
Focusing on assets is at the heart of Mikell's philosophy. She developed Hidden Treasure years ago while working with women in prison. When asked about her work, Mikell noted, "These women had heard negative messages all their lives, so we used positive reinforcement to focus on their gifts. Over time, it occurred to me that all of us are bombarded with negative messages, usually so some one can sell us something we don't need. When we learn to look within, we can find the answers to obtain peace and joy!"
Over the years, Mikell has blended learning from others, lessons from nature, and her own life experience, to develop skills to practice gratitude and to remain optimistic and positive, in spite of many of life's disappointments and challenges. She experienced a flood that destroyed her home. Initially she planned to rebuild but every step forward was followed by several steps back. She began to look for other options and her oldest daughter, a resident of Baltimore, asked her to move closer to her. She fell in love with Baltimore and for ten years, she instructed and attended a number of courses at the Renaissance Institute, a life long learning component through Notre Dame University of Baltimore. She sang in the chorus and taught courses on Enhancing Your Life with Herbs, Exploring the Rainbow, A More Creative You, Illustrated Journaling, and Seeking the Sacred in Everyday Life.
Following the pandemic, Mikell moved back to central Pennsylvania to be closer to her daughters. She moved into the historic district in a 1975 log cabin and is delighted to live in a home with so much history! She continued to teach courses on line for the Renaissance Institute and added a new one - Seeds, Roots and Routes - course description:"Our lives are rich with miraculous seeds - a thought, a smile, a class . . . Roots gather nutrients to help seeds grow. We will explore stories, legends and symbolism, music, paintings, short videos to illustrate parallels to our life experiences and journey. Bring a journal (optional, but recommended) to reflect on your life’s seeds, roots and routes - past, present and future."
Mikell has faced challenges and uncertainty and moved forward in faith to a better place! She is committed to helping others revisit their dreams and explore new possibilities. She encourages clients to discover their gifts and talents, and to recognize the beauty in the multi faceted styles of others. She will guide you to recognize and polish your assets through assessments and customized value driven action plans.
